Do I need to file a Swiss tax return if I am taxed at source?

If you earn more than CHF 120,000 per year, filing a Swiss tax return is mandatory in most cantons. Even if you earn less, you may still benefit from filing if you have deductible expenses (such as Pillar 3a contributions), additional income, or significant assets. Whether you need, or choose, to file depends on your individual circumstances.

Income Tax & Tax Returns

Dear taxum, I could not help but wonder… if you are taxed at source in Switzerland, are you actually done? It sounds so definitive. So final. Taxed. At. Source. But here is the twist: if you earn over CHF 120'000.-, filing a Swiss tax return is mandatory. And even below that, additional income, assets, or a little pillar 3a contribution can quietly pull you back into the story.Withholding tax is not always the final chapter. Sometimes it is just a simplification.
